It is the second highest mountain in the area.
The departure from Argegno by cable car up to Pigra (880 m) is highly recommended.
Pigra – Monte Galbiga: via the “strada ai monti” path you reach the altitude (1700 m) in a couple of hours. First you come across Alpe di Colonno (1237 m) – with restaurant – you continue to meet Boffalora (1252 m) – about 20 minutes – with restaurant. From Boffalora the military road goes up and leads to Rifugio Venini (1576 m), managed by the ANA of Lenno, then goes up to Alpe di Ossuccio and finally to Alpe di Lenno, still used by farmers (cheese retailers). The summit of Galbiga is not far away but from here the path is steeper. From the summit we recommend continuing the ridge up to Monte Crocione (30 minutes, evident metal cross) with a spectacular view of Lake Como. On Mount Galbiga the remains of fortifications and the military road from the 1915 – '18 war are visible, reused as anti-aircraft lookout positions in the 1940 – '45 war. Inside a now collapsed trench, about one hundred meters from the back of the Venini Refuge, an Astronomical Observatory was built: only the 4 meter dome is visible from the outside; management is entrusted to the Lariani Astrophile Group, which supplied the instrumentation (headquarters: Albavilla – CO – Tel: 3476301088, from Monday to Saturday, 6.00 – 8.00 pm).
Variants:
-from Alpe di Colonno: you can go down to Alpe di Sala in about 20 minutes – with agritourism.
-From Boffalora the mule track that connects to Alpe di Ponna is part of the traditional Benedictine path that connected the properties of the friars in Valle Intelvi and those of Tremezzina. Going down towards the lake there are two possible itineraries:
-in a couple of hours the steep mule track (difference in altitude -833) following the signs (Difficulty F) leads to the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Soccorso (419 m), 16th – 18th century, which rises above the tuff ravine . From the Sanctuary, walking backwards along the avenue with the 14 chapels of the mysteries of the Rosary, after another half hour's walk you arrive on the lake shore, in Ossuccio.
-the alternative path leads directly to the Hermitage of San Benedetto in Val Perlana, of medieval origin (800 m), immersed in the woods: the path is not easy (Difficulty EE).
-The Acquafredda Abbey (16th century) 319 m, one km from Lenno, is connected on one side to the Hermitage of S. Benedetto and on the other to the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Soccorso, which in turn are connected by an arduous journey, in a sort of circular route.
