Chiesa Trinità di Argegno

The current parish, located in the beautiful panoramic square near the mouth of the Telo, has recent origins. In fact, it was built in the early twentieth century with the aim of replacing the older church located in the centre, where today stands the beautiful little square in which bars, restaurants and commercial activities are concentrated. There were various reasons that led to this choice: on the one hand the church was not large enough and on the other its position made it difficult to circulate along the Via Regina. The engineer Cesare Nava designed the new parish church and favored the neo-Romanesque style with Byzantine hints and a single nave plan. The façade houses a beautiful rose window under which the figures of the four evangelists, of Sant'Abbondio, patron saint of Como, and of Sant' Anna, patron saint of Argegno, shine in a beautiful mosaic. Inside, the apse basin houses another beautiful mosaic, this one depicting the SS. Trinity while the supper at Emmaus is represented on the tabernacle. The altar supported by the apostles and with an evangelist at each corner, is flanked by the statue of the Virgin and that of Saint Joseph under which there are panels depicting on one side the mission of the woman (wife, mother, educator and assistant of the less wealthy) and on the other the local jobs of the past (farmer, bricklayer, carpenter and fisherman); Two works of the ancient church remain preserved: a large painting of the Nativity dating back to the 17th century and located on the left wall and the wooden statue of the Virgin. The interior also houses a 19th century sculpture of the Baby Jesus which is carried in procession through the streets of the town during Argegno's main annual event: the Living Nativity Scene.
