A golden age, between 1550 and 1650, known as the “siglo de los genoveses”, in which the city reached the peak of its economic and cultural splendor.

An intense season of artistic commissions leads to the birth of extraordinary works: from Genoese masters to international presences such as Rubens and Van Dyck, who leave their mark especially in the art of portraiture. In the eighteenth century, the Baroque evolves into refined forms of Rococo and Genoa becomes a laboratory of ideas for the nascent Neoclassicism.
