The ethnographic museum of Casasco Intelvi is a precious historical and social resource, a cultural and human testimony that aims to link the people of Casasco and the people of the Intelvi Valley to their origins.
Originally inaugurated on 5 November 1995, it was born from an idea of Piergiorgio Cairoli, then Mayor of the town with the aim of preserving and passing on the cultural heritage of peasant civilisation, of the mountains and of artisanal practices, trying, as far as possible, to respect the customs, ideals and feelings of the people who, with their hard work, faced a reality that was in some ways unknown to us.
The objects and tools are grouped by environments and activities according to a precise and harmonious reconstruction which has the effect of creating an intense emotion for an era so distant from us and yet so close.
Only in this way, through a dynamic exhibition, the ethnographic museum becomes a sort of interesting book to browse through which shows us the life of ordinary people following as a scheme the cycle of seasons, of anniversaries, of the hard daily life of such a strongly rooted community. in the territory and patriarchal in facts, but matriarchal in substance.
It must not be forgotten, in fact, that the entire Intelvese territory and therefore this also applies to Casasco, was essentially an area of seasonal emigration, generally artisans, often artists and, as such, subject to the absence of a large part of the male population.
Daily life was therefore followed by the female member of the family who thus had to take on the hard work in the fields or raising livestock as well as, naturally, the care of the children and their education.
The representation of the humble and hard work of common people thus acquires a high ethical sense. Respecting and protecting it almost becomes an obligation, an act of love and respect for one's roots.
The museum was set up in an excellently renovated farmhouse located near the "Paneè" square, and currently consists of two spaces and a mezzanine where the objects that testify to the activities linked to agriculture, breeding, cheese-making, to transport, craft activities and the domestic life that has characterized the people of Casasca over the years.
Interesting is the collection of equipment relating to the production of scagliola, both marbled and inlaid which has given so much prestige to the Intelvi Valley.
