In the suggestive locality of Pian delle Alpi it is possible to observe, in a good state of conservation, a sòstra, a rural construction built to offer shelter to livestock. It is a long, large building generally open on one side only (one of the two long ones), made with dry stone masonry walls with a vast roof traditionally made of stone with one or two pitches. Often isolated in the pasture, the sòstra, not very high, mainly hosts small livestock. In Valle Intelvi other examples are present at Monte Generoso, Alpe Grande and Alpe Squadrina. The latter, massive and monumental, serves as a shelter especially for cattle and is characterized by the presence of arches which make the construction particularly interesting and unique.
