Later, a castle was built in the town which was an important defense center during the period of the barbarian invasions of the Goths, Vandals, Alans, Ostrogoths and Heruli. The municipality participated in the ten-year war between How and Milan and at the end of it it passed into the hands of various families, who already owned many other towns in the valley: Camuzzi, Trivulzio, Rusca, Marliani and Riva Andreotti.
Count Melchiorre Riva Andreotti appointed it the seat of the Intelvese General Council and during the period of Austrian domination it became the operational center of the Giovine Italia Intelvese.
